SSE

Shanghai index has declined after the central bank announced that they may increase interest rate. You may check out here for more info.

Currently, SSE is resting at its strong support level. If support breaks, we may see further downside.

Dow Jones Index

There's no reversal signal spotted in DOW yet. Thus, uptrend is still intact. However, Dow is trading near its resistance and it's time to be caution.

STI

Last week, STI has managed to break the 2 yrs high record where most of us were anticipating for it to happen.

STI has rallied for the past 3 weeks, no bearish reversal pattern seen yet. Thus, uptrend is still intact.

Banking sector has yet to move, and properties were trading sideway. Will they be the next wave?

STI can be manipulated by the big foreign market. Looking at DOW and Shang hai, we have to be caution in the coming week.

My personal view:

If DOW refuses to break its resistance, I am expecting a pull back or a sideway trading before STI makes a new high. 3036 would be the next support. If not, the psychological support at 3000. Second line stocks or penny stocks may be in play.

Last week, Asian and US market rebounded strongly and trading volume has also increased. These may due to the increase of lending to SME in China banks; the reports from US, pending home sales bounced back in Aug and jobless claims fell; and of course, the TA plays apart.

STI has found its strong support at 2920 and currently, it's trading near its immediate resistance. Can STI break through? This is the question where everyone is asking.

Most of the sectors has rebounded off and currently, the finance sector is still hovering at its support level and property sector has just started to move. Finance sector needs to lead the market for the next wave if not, the property sector in order for STI to have higher chance to break the 2 years peak of 3043.

From this chart, you can see that the banks are lagging behind the active sectors.

Properties are also trying to catch up.

Conclusion:

Investors are turning bullish as bullish sentiment kicks into the global market over the past 6 days which potentially increases the chance for STI to reach a new high. Market also seems to be more volatile than before with the mixed global economics news.

My take is to hold on firm on the current position for a potential breakout. If not, take half profit near the resistance of 3043 and ride the other half. Exit only when a reversal signal is confirmed.

Possible scenario: STI hovers around the resistance level between 3011(gap support) and 3043(immediate resistance) before reaching a new high.

Stocks rallied and Treasuries retreated after Bernanke pledged to safeguard the economy on last Friday. The rebound has confirmed that the psychological support level of 10000 is in place. DJI has been in the retracement period for 3 weeks and this may potentially marks the turning point of the market.

Looking at the technical perspective, indicators are showing that the bearish momentum is starting to fade off - stochastic crossover and Macd bar with 4r1g. This may be an indication for the change of momentum.

However, please beware that we are still in the short term downtrend.

For DJI to resume its uptrend, it must first break the resistance level at 10424 and form a higher low.

I am positive for the upcoming week.

What to look out for?

2nd Resistance level: 10424 (Crucial level)

Fibo 38% support

Recently, many investors are dumping their shares after the announcement made by FED - concern on their upcoming economic situation.

This created fears around the world and market is going more and more bearish.

Looking at the technical perspective, all indicators are diving which shows that market is in bearish sentiment now.

However, STI is trading near it's support level and we may see a technical rebound after a deep dive where investors may starts to pick up good stocks.

Currently there are 2 supports, one at 2926 which was today's closing price and another at 2891 which looks more convincing with fibo 38% support.

Conclusion:

If STI rebounded off from the support, market may turn into sideway trend or may resume its uptrend if resistance breakout.

If the strong support breaks at 2891, market may turn into downtrend and we may see further downside.

In this situation, we should stay away from the long side until a clearer direction is established.

Singapore’s economy probably grew more than 20% for a second quarter as rising exports boosted manufacturing output and the opening of two casinos spurred tourist arrivals.

Gross domestic product rose an annualized 23% in the second quarter from the previous three months, after climbing 38.6% in the January-to-March period, according to the median estimate of 12 economists surveyed by Bloomberg News. The trade ministry will release the data at 8 a.m. tomorrow.

Singapore’s strengthening economy has added to an Asian rebound that prompted central banks to raise interest rates in recent weeks, even amid concern that Europe’s debt crisis will slow the global recovery.

The nation has raised its GDP forecast twice this year and Credit Suisse Group AG and Oversea-Chinese Banking Corp. predict the island may overtake China as Asia’s fastest-growing economy in 2010.

“The strength of the first-quarter recovery took most by surprise, and Singapore could see an even more impressive second quarter, judging by the latest manufacturing data,” said Alvin Liew, a Singapore-based economist at Standard Chartered Plc. The country also benefited from “robust tourist arrivals,” lured by new attractions, he said.

The benchmark Singapore stock index rose 0.3% at 9:37 a.m. local time, and has climbed 29% in the past year. The island’s currency added 0.2% to 1.3809 per U.S. dollar, bringing this year’s gain to 1.5%.

MANUFACTURING GAINS

Singapore’s manufacturing increased an average 45% in the first five months of 2010, after declining an average 13% in the same period last year. Pharmaceutical output has at least doubled every month from March to May.

“Pharmaceuticals and electronics did very well last quarter, while trade services and tourism arrivals helped beef up growth,” said Enrico Tanuwidjaja, a regional economist at OSK-DMG Group in Singapore. “We are expecting the momentum in manufacturing to slow in the second half.”

The performance of Singapore’s pharmaceutical industry is volatile as production swings by companies such as Sanofi- Aventis SA can cause industrial output to fluctuate.

The opening of two casino resorts by Genting Singapore Plc and Las Vegas Sands Corp. this year, which include a theme park and convention centers, has contributed to record tourist arrivals every month through May and is helping fuel employment.

The economy probably grew 17.3% in the second quarter from a year earlier, according to the median estimate of 13 economists surveyed by Bloomberg.

Singapore’s trade promotion industry will also release export figures tomorrow. Overseas shipments may rise 22.6% in June from a year earlier, after a 24.4% gain in May, according to the median estimate of 10 economists. Non- oil domestic exports will probably gain between 15% and 17 percent in 2010, the government said in May.

Despite the US market decline on last week, Asian markets maintain bullish when china announced on their flexibility policy on its RMB currency. Lets take a look at Shanghai index and see if there is a possibility that they can affect our market.

Shanghai Index (SSE)

SSE has been in downtrend since the triangle breakout on mid Apr until recently, SSE refuse to go lower and has been tested 3 times at 2505. Could it be at its lowest point? It might be a possible sign of bullishness.

Recent trading movement is being resisted by 20MA. A possible change of trend if SSE break its previous resistance and form a higher high, higher low.

Dow Jones Industrial Index

DJI was fighting up and down on last friday. It closed above fibo 62.8% which seems to be a possible support. A white candle is needed for the confirmation.

Straits Time Index

Looking at STI, it's being well supported and 20MA is moving up closely. There might be a good chance for STI to form a higher low for next week.

Lets monitor if the support holds on Monday.

STI has rallied for the past 2 weeks creating a higher high, higher low which seems to resume back to its uptrend movement. Many stocks has also rallied and even broke its resistance level.

If you have not long for the past 2 weeks, it's ok. We may have another chance to wait for the price to pull back to its support level (20ma, higher high or higher low) then go for long.

On Friday, STI closes with bearish engulfing candlestick pattern. However, the volume was low which means that there could be a possibility that the candlestick pattern can be neglected or maybe it's due to world cup?

My view for next week:

STI may show some weakness as indicator like MACD is showing sign of bearish (4G1r) - change of momentum. RSI and Stochastic are also in their overbought regions heading downwards.

Thus, I would expect retracement for next week. Support level to look out for:

1) 2806

2) 2762 (confluence with 20MA currently)

What to look out for?

Next resistance: 2777, 2886

Many indicators has shown signs of bullish, but classical analysis is still on a downtrend (mid-term).

My views:

I am still on the bullish side for long-term as Singapore's export and our economics fundamentally is doing pretty well. However, our market can be manipulated by the big foreign markets. The euro and korea issues has arise recently which affects our market's volatility and became so unpredictable. We cannot predict what will happen next. Hence, I would trade base on what the chart has shown.

I would expect the rebound to continue as the market is oversold and many indicators are starting to point up and showing a sign of bullishness. Many counters has rebounded off from its classical support and 200MA but many has break their major support as well.

I would choose those that are above major classical support and 200MA to bull and stay short-term and be more caution.

Further upside is still unclear as there are many strong resistance waiting ahead. I would prefer to wait for a high low to form for my next entry.

Technical Rebound?

STI, Hang Seng and Dow Jones has shown sign of recovering during the last intra-day trading. Does this means that there is a technical rebound? Who knows? but i would expect it to rebound looking from the TA point of view.

STI is showing a potential bullish divergence and 2680 is the major classical support. If technical rebound is going to happen, the 1st resistance STI is going to meet is at around 2775; a lot more resistance are waiting behind. Down trend / Sideway is going to continue if STI can't break previous high. Currently, STI is at a crucial point - once STI broke down 2680, more downside is going to happen.

Is it time to buy?

If you intend to buy now, be prepared. The risk is higher if you buy now since we are in downtrend now and the risk and reward might not be good.

An option for me is to trade on a very short period, fast in and out.

I might risk a smaller position and hook on counters that establish potential bullish signal.

The Greece debt crisis has caused a plunge on the global market recently, some might argue that it's due to the overbought on the market that is moving too far apart the fundamental of the economics. (http://marcfaberblog.blogspot.com/2010/05/cause-of-sell-off-is-that-markets-run.html)

A relief news about the Euro bailout with 1 trillion dollar aid package released yesterday from the European Union making a turn around on the global market to rebound. (Is this for long term?)

Well, if you are trading technical analysis and react to the everyday news, it will only cause you panic and frustration. Cut loss and reduce position is a technique to adjust your risk of your trade to protect your capital.

I would expect this rebound to form a lower high.

If you are bearish, you may want to take this chance to short when the lower high is formed.

If you are bullish, you can either take a smaller position to trade now since there are a lot of stocks showing reversal signal; but, you may incur higher risk to trade now as the reversal is uncertain. I would suggest to enter when a higher low is formed to enter with a lower risk.

The bull is badly injured and need some time to heal. I would stay sideline for the moment until a better opportunity is established.

Today STI broke the major resistance! wow The day that I have been waiting for has finally arrived. Remember that time I posted DJI and S&P broke major resistance? STI is finally catching up with them!

How much more would STI go?

We have no idea but as I said in the previous few post that, this might be a good chance to catch stocks that rebounded off from its support.

I took profit for 4 reasons.

1) I have another counter in the same sector which is OCBC.
2) I saw many opportunities coming and I want to reserve more cash to Long those potential stocks.
3) STI is trading near resistance and RSI above 70%. I sense retracement is coming soon.
4) UOB $18.80 resistance is a tough 1. Currently, stochastic is moving near over bought region.

Nevertheless, candlestick is showing bullish harami. Once the decision is made, I will not look back.

In the past 2 weeks, STI was lead by Commodities and Offshore Marine sector. (First-line stocks like Noble Grp, NOL, Sembmar etc)

Last week, Banking & Finance sector has started to show a strong upward momentum.

Last week, STI went through a consecutive positive movement. Nice!

How will next week perform?

Lets look at Dow Jones.

Dow is trading near resistance level. We might see a retracement to its support level anytime next week or 2 in order to go higher as RSI indicator is above 70% region.

Lastly, STI!

The trend is not matured yet! No clear sign.

However, the upside is limited as seen in the chart + the indicators are showing sign of bearish.

Next week, we shall look out for STI 2680 crucial support.

If that support is going to break, we can conclude that trend has change from short-term downtrend to a downtrend confirmation.

If 2680 has broken, the next immediate support will be around 2600. (Classical + 38% fibo support)

First of all, Happy CNY to all!

I have been very busy recently. Finally, manage to squeeze out some time to share my view on the market.

The recent market movement have no clear direction on where it is heading to. Many people have different perspective on whether is it a bearish or a bullish. Well, if you are not sure of the trend, then exit. Unless you are prepared for it. We can't predict the market movement but we can ride the trend.

Looking at a broader view of STI, the long term uptrend is still intact.

Notice that there is a gap resistance highlighted in the graph. For the short term downtrend to reverse, we have to wait for it to be filled.

Shorting or Longing now is not advisable as the psychology of the market is still not clear. "Bulls and bears are fighting hard"

My strategy is to wait for the gap to be filled, then long at the higher low.

The scenario is just my ideal plan, market is never an easy game.

US Dollar and DJI

Dow Jones Industrial and US dollar is moving against each other.

That's how important it's when President Obama is trying to boost the US dollar.

Looking at a technical point of view, US dollar is trading near its resistance and indicators such as Stochastic and RSI are in oversold region. Thus, we might see a technical rebound from DJI if US dollar retrace from its resistance.

DJI, STI and HS has formed the 1st cycle of lower high lower low.

STI 2600 support is a crucial one. If it doesn't hold, we will see a clearer picture moving off from a short-term downtrend to a trend reversal.

2 Scenario from my perspective

1) Short - I will be looking for shorting if STI breaks 2600 support with high vol and retest test the support level as resistance.

2) Long - If STI breaks 2770 with high vol, I will be waiting for a higher low to form.

I still don't believe there's such thing that can project the future price until it proves me wrong. I have tried to plot the wave count and you can see where our current position in the chart. Whether is there such Elliott wave logic in reality? let the chart tell us the story in a few more months time.

I am 20% sure my chart is correctly plotted. LOL

Recent market fall are affected by lots of factor.

Major impact such as Obama Speech, China's bank tightening... and what's next?

Drawing back to technical view, indicator is showing bullish signal. Are the bulls back in action?

STI is very near key support level 2700. If that support are going to break, STI may turn into trend reversal (Down trend).

If you intend to go long tomorrow(that's if market is up: confirmation), my suggest is to reduce your position and stay caution.

Don't forget to set your strict cut loss especially in this kind of situation.

Cheap can go cheaper. Capital protection is priority.

DOW's huge declined on Friday scared off many investors and traders, will it spill over to the Asia market in the coming Monday?

If you take a closer look at the candlestick in STI and Hang Seng, there is a massive buy back which formed a early signal of recovery that rebounds off from it's classical support. There were also many stocks which exhibited either bullish signals or bullish reversal signals.

Nobody can tell what is going to happen tomorrow.

When knife falls, we will not catch it.

Wait for a clear confirmation signal to enter and win the battle.
